How did Benjamin McGovern, in his short life, become a legend? Since Ben’s death, his grand- parents, Jim and Clare McGovern, founded a fund- raiser they calledWalking for Ben”. Through “Light the Night” Walks for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, they have raised more than $1,700,000. The McGovern’s organized 3 walks and BBQ’s that brought together 2,700 people who were touched by Ben’s courageous fight. The McGovern’s donated all the money they raised to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which funds research grants across the country, in an effort to find cures for blood cancers. Leukemia is one of these blood cancers; it is the leading cancer killer of people under the age of 20. The fund-raising conducted in Ben’s memory has made him a legend and will someday prevent the death of thousands of other children.

Jim and Clare feel that from a terribly sad disaster,Light the Night came a lot of good. “Walking for Ben” has done a tremendous job of bringing people together and will benefit many more cancer patients in the future.

Their goal for 2007 is $1,000,000! With your help, they hope to make this year’s walk even more successful!

LIGHT THE NIGHT
is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual evening walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Each fall, teams of friends and co-workers gather in cities and towns across America holding illuminated balloons - white for survivors and red for supporters. Light the Night is an evening of fun activities, great food, inspiring music and an unforgettable walk as the sun goes down.
